Recognise the signs
Different people experience asthma differently.
Some people experience asthma as an ‘attack’ while others experience signs and symptoms off and on. Signs (also referred to as symptoms) are usually set off by triggers. Common signs of asthma include:
- Coughing – coughing is often an early sign of asthma that indicates the airways are irritable.
- Wheezing - breathlessness and wheeze can occur while playing sport, exercising or hurrying.
- Tight chest – asthma can make your chest feel tight and you may experience some difficulty breathing.
